Fixed media — timpani and field recordings

Anaculaton begins with the timpani as an extremely simple causal event: impact → membrane → resonance → decay. The piece gradually interferes with this sequence. Timpani attacks activate virtual resonating bodies whose scale exceeds the apparent dimensions of the original instrument. Field recordings — wind, ventilation, tunnels, machinery, distant environmental resonance and other sustained spaces — carry the sound beyond the instrument.

First piece of A Mechanics of Almost.
